You can't be pushing forward, or left, or right on the left stick and you do it either. You can't be pushing in any direction. You can only push Circle than Square to get the kick. Pushing in any direction mix some swing with his lightsaber instead of kick. Couple factors I noticed are that you can’t dodge too far away from your enemy
