The GTI ups its game with some added power and a far more responsive chassis – and the 45 badge adds some crackles and pops to go with it. The result is more engaging than before, but still not
VW didn't feel as though there would be sufficient market for the alternative powerplant GTx cars, so we never got the GTD or the GTE. Yes, the GTI will have a higher redline and, as you noted, higher horsepower, but the diesel may have more torque and may get better fuel economy. ReactionBog269 Mk7 GTI • 38 min. ago. From what I can find online “The Clubsport S version has a larger diameter inlet that matches the stock GTI piping perfectly” according to golfmk7 forums.. looks like on the Clubsport version the piping has a smaller diameter of 2.25" compared to the 2.5” diameter of the GTI and the Clubsport S mufflers.. but I could be wrong. VW Golf GTI Clubsport (2016) review. Published:27 November 2015. At a glance. Handling 4 out of 5. Performance 4 out of 5. Usability 5 out of 5. Feelgood factor 4 out of 5. In 1976, Volkswagen launched the legendary Golf 1 GTI, which achieved impressive performance figures by the standards of the time with its 1.6-litre engine and 110 hp. The Golf 1 GTI is credited with establishing the compact sports car segment known as “hot hatches” and is still very popular with tuning fans today.
The big difference between the GTI and the Clubsport is its power – up to 290hp during 10-second bursts of overboost when you floor it and 265hp the rest of the time.
